Collingwood & West Coast online battle

Who would have thought at the start of the year that Collingwood & West Coast would be the ONLY top 8 teams facing each other in round 10?

They are both rallying the digital fans for the big battle at the MCG on Sunday with a friendly competition on the big three platforms – Facebook, YouTube & Twitter.

With over 200,000 Facebook fans, 20,000 Twitter followers between them & fans jumping on board with newly formed YouTube channels expect to see both teams trending on Sunday.

Here is the team’s initial call to fans to fire up, stay tuned over the weekend for more action from both teams.

Both teams are getting great fan engagement numbers lately especially when compared to the NBA Western Conference Finalists as reviewed using SSMI.

Here’s hoping the digital battle provides the same spark for their fans that it did for the Sea Eagles & Rabbitohs

Stay tuned on Monday for the results.

Dallas Mavericks Vs OKC Thunder – Sports Social Media Index matchup

Previously we’ve used the Sports Social Media Index (SSMI) to look at how an entire league connects with fans using social media – AFL 2010 Preseason, NRL 2010.

Today, we’ve taken at look at the NBA’s Western Conference Finals with the Dallas Mavericks taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The analysis for this comparison covered the 3 days covering game 1 and 2 of their current series.

What are your thoughts on the SSMI assessment?

Live baseball on @SportzfanRadio

After enjoying a few ABL games this year I decided to take @SportzfanRadio from a sports panel radio show to a live game broadcast.  We’ve been producing @SportzfanRadio for over 3 years now on Southern FM that’s over 300 hours of live radio including several outside broadcasts.  Looking forward to calling the Melbourne Aces Vs Perth Heat this Saturday night from 7pm on 88.3FM and streaming from SportzfanRadio.com.  @SportzfanRadio returns from the summer break on Sunday from 12pm covering all sports.  You can help out the commentary team have some fun by joining in the fun on Twitter adding your #madeupbaseballfact.

#SportsGeekTrip one year on…

This time last year Sports Geek was in Los Angeles on route to Dallas & New York.  Many great findings from that trip have been applied in the past 12 months,  in the past 12 months Sports Geek has

  • spoke at @SportConference with speakers from Real Madrid, NBA & MLS.
  • developed Sports Social Media Index to grade the social media efforts of sports franchises
  • secured clients in Australia, New Zealand & India
  • connected with over 250,000 Facebook fans via Sports Geek clients (2011 goal 1 million fans!)

#qldfloods

The past week has seen Australian TVs filled with images of the Queensland Floods.  If you have not see any footage just watch this video, after doing that please donate to the Flood Relief Appeal.  Sport has been affected by the floods with Suncorp stadium under 2 metres of water, but it is great to see all sports rallying their support behind Queensland sending donations and organising fundraiser games to support the cause.

Tweeps beware…

We know the media is loving the news stories available as athletes sign up at Twitter.  Each week we see stories where athletes are making the same mistakes on Twitter but what about when sports media gets it wrong?  Have a look at what happened when the Herald Sun reported a Twitter war at Collingwood.

LeBron Sweepstakes, SSMI NRL & Wimbledon #BODSW

Sports Social Media Index - National Rugby LeagueBest of Digital Sports World #10

This coming week may be the biggest in NBA history as the free agent class of LeBron, Wade & Bosh among others decide where they will continue to ply their trade.  Teams & fans are in a frenzy at the possibility of landing one, two are perhaps all three. Chicago Bulls sold 1500 season tickets in 48 hours just on speculation alone.

Darren Rovell does are great job breaking down what LeBron’s worth maybe to each potential destination.

Latest release of SSMI was released this week looking at the NRL clubs and how they use social media platforms to connect with sports fans.  Hear more about it on @SportzfanRadio this Sunday at http://SportzfanRadio.com.
